Prof. Hutchinson is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of the West Indies, Faculty of Medical Sciences. Prof. Hutchinson is also the current Head of Clinical Medical Sciences and also the Head of Psychiatric Services at the North Central Regional Health Authority. He was educated at the University of the West Indies and the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, University of London.
Professor Hutchinson has been a respected practitioner in the field of psychiatry for over 20 years. He has published noteworthy work examining local non-medical beliefs and healing as well as on suicide and other mental health-related research. He believes that mental health problems no longer define the affected person but instead define all of us…[these issues] enrich our world because we are all forced to seek a greater understanding of ourselves. Professor. Hutchinson has several areas of research interest which include suicide and self-harm, adult ADHD and the epidemiology of psychosis
He has also worked on several projects that include developing the Counseling Support Programme for students at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, and working also with the ADHD Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago.
